Hash, Marijuana & Hemp Museum

Hash, Marijuana & Hemp museum is located on Oudezijds Achterburgwal, right in the heart of the red light district. The museum is the oldest in the world dedicated to cannabis and has had over 2 million visitors since it opened in 1987.

The museum was founded by cannabis entrepreneurs Ben Dronkers and Ed Rosenthal. Ben also founded the Sensi Seed Company in 1985, which is one of the oldest and most recognised seed companies in the world and Ed Rosenthal who is an American horticulturist, author, publisher, and Cannabis grower known for his advocacy for the legalization of marijuana use. Ed is also the author of numerous books about the cultivation of marijuana.

The museum highlights and showcases over 9,000 cannabis artefacts and even houses a garden with live plants and even an interactive vaporizer exhibition. The museum reveals how much impact cannabis has had on the planet and became the worlds most versatile plant, which has contributed to the development of medicine, art, music, textiles, exploration, and more.

In 2009 a second location called 'The Hemp Gallery' was opened as the same street, which displays even more of the museums collection. The Hemp Gallery is dedicated to the long history and wider uses of the hemp plant. From paper and sails, to food, plastics, high fashion and design.

The museum is open every day from: 10:00 – 22:00
