The Bulldog Palace

The Bulldog Palace is located on Leidseplein and opened on April fools day 1985. This coffeeshop is housed in the former police station number 14. These guys have went from constant battles with the police to owning an old police station and actually using it as a coffeeshop.

The Palace is located on Amsterdam’s most popular square with plenty of attractions within walking distance. This place is easily accessible by tram from all parts of the city and stops right in front of the door.

This shop is a great place to people watch from the large patio overlooking Leidseplein and has been visited by celebrities from all era’s such as Britney Spears, Mike Tyson, Mariah Carey, Snoop Dogg and Sean Penn.

Inside the building in the old jail cell area there is actually a museum which which highlights the prohibition era. There is even a machine gun hanging up on the door which is dated from 1928. You can sit in the holding cell (photo below) and have a smoke.

The menu is similar to the other Bulldog coffeeshop's in the city centre and usually stocks around 12 to 15 strains at a time. The hash selection is limited to around half a dozen.
