Het Ballonetje

Het Ballonnetje "The Balloon" is a nice cosy coffeeshop set on 2 floors located right next to Amsterdam University. It was founded in 1978 making it one of the oldest coffeeshops in the city.
Situated in a green neighbourhood known as "The Plantage" Het Ballonnetje is only a 5 minute walk from the Botanical Gardens (Hortus Botanics) and the Artis Zoo. The number 9 and 14 trams will take you there from near Dam Square in around 15 minutes.

As you walk in the door there is a little corridor to the dealer booth where the selection is displayed on 2 screens that are built in to the counter. Once you have made a purchase a member of staff will buzz you into the smoking/sitting area.

Het Ballonnetje rarely gets over crowded which makes it a great place to chill out after a busy day on your feet in the city. You always see the locals coming and going which is always a good sign. If you are in the area and looking for a place to relax then look no further.

The menu usually stocks at least 10 strains of weed and a smaller selection of hash. Special offers on there house strain "White Balloon" and "Amnesia" are also available. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable and happy to answer any questions about their products. This coffeeshop attracts a wide range of guests from locals, students and even some celebrities as legend Samuel L Jackson (right) made a visit here when he was in the city filming his role in the movie 'The Hitmans Bodyguard'.
