Dampkring

The Original Dampkring coffeeshop is located on Handboogstraat in the city centre, only 2 minutes away from the Flower Market and around 5 minutes from Dam Square.

De Dampkring in English means 'The Atmosphere' and that is exactly what you get here. Although a relatively small coffeeshop it is a nice place to chill with one of a kind décor which gives a cosy feel to the shop. The music is never too loud and the staff are very friendly. They also have some of the nicest milkshakes in town. Be sure to try one if you stop by.

If the Dampkring wasn't already a big name then it certainly would be come 2004 when movie director Steven Soderbergh decided to shoot a scene in the coffeeshop for the movie 'Oceans 12' with actors Matt Dillon, George Clooney, Robbie Coltrane and Brad Pitt. This helped rocket this coffeeshops profile and many people come to visit to see where the famous scene was shot. They have photos up on the wall of the actors and have even named a strain 'Oceans 12 Haze' after the movie.

De Dampkring have always had an extensive menu available and this tradition has continued for many years. Easily one of the biggest cannabis menus in town. The Ceres Hilton is one of my favourite smokes and a strain I would definitely recommend. The hash is also usually top quality from here.
